Doorway That Ate the Room

Custom solution by Beyond the Blueprint for an extra-wide ensuite opening: built new frame, installed elegant dual doors, restoring amazing privacy for a very satisfied customer.

This project started with a mystery: why would an ensuite bathroom have a doorway so vast it looked like it was designed for a chariot? Our customer’s “doorway” was wider than a standard queen-size bed, making his ensuite about as private as a glass phone booth. Every trip to the bathroom felt like an audition for a reality TV show. The lack of a door and the sheer scale of the opening were not only an aesthetic oddity but a daily assault on his sense of personal space, which is where Beyond the Blueprint Pty Ltd stepped in.

Architectural Contortionism

The first order of business was to perform some architectural shrinking. We couldn’t just install a standard door because, frankly, the gap was big enough for two standard doors. So, our experts got to work building a custom, extended door frame and jamb. This wasn’t simple carpentry; it was a precision operation to narrow the monstrous opening to a manageable, door-friendly size. We had to carefully carve the space back into a respectable proportion, essentially constructing a stable foundation so the new entrance wouldn’t look like a tiny hat on a giant’s head.

The Double-Door Diplomat

Once the frame was perfected, it was time for the hero of the hour: the dual door setup. This wasn’t just practical; it was a stroke of genius. The two doors perfectly covered the remaining width while adding a touch of sophisticated flair. Instead of one timid door, our customer now had two strong, silent protectors of his privacy. The dual-door system ensures a complete, solid barrier, meaning he no longer has to perform a series of athletic contortions just to shield himself from the hallway while exiting the shower.

The Transformation Reveal

The final stage, painting the new frame, jamb, and doors, sealed the deal and completed the dramatic transformation. Take a look at the image: the “before” is a comedy of exposed space, the “progress” shows the hard work of the narrowing frame, and the finished product is pure elegance and, more importantly, privacy. The custom work is seamless, looking exactly like it was built that way from the start, not like a massive gap we wrestled into submission.
